The activities as group started in 2012 at Depto. de Biologia, UNESP, Rio Claro/SP, Brazil. Our main interests are the understanding of the possible role of repetitive DNAs in the evolutionary process, mainly focused in the general genome evolution, heterochromatin evolution, sex chromosome evolution and B chromosome origin and diversification. We are also interested in understanding the possible role for B chromosomes maintenance in natural populations and the mechanism that underline sex determination, besides the understanding of general patterns of chromosomal evolution, systematic and phylogeny. For these studies we use distict cytogenetic and molecular metodologies, including PCR, qPCR, cloning, chromosome microdissection, Fluorescent in situ hybridization, immunodetection, classical and nex generation sequencing, besides bioinformatic analysis. Our main models are insects (grasshoppers, crickets, splitebugs, beetles, true bugs and bees), fish and frogs, but other models are also welcome. The principal investigators of the group are Prof. Dr. Diogo C Cabral-de-Mello (insects) and Profa. Dra. Patricia P Parise Maltempi (vertebrates).
